As one of Hedone High's prefects, A.E.D gets the luxury of having a small room to himself. Or at least he would, except Izm drops by often enough that they might as well be roommates instead. He also has a normal name, however no one knows it and even his school records list him as "A.E.D" to avoid confusion.

Quick Synopsis:

A.E.D is the school's resident mystery, as as far as his peers know about him yes that is his "real name" and he goes home to an address that's apparently an orphanage. Other than that he's more well known as the occasionally snarky prefect who has the most luck dealing with troublemakers (such as Izm, who is more inclined to listen to him). His success probably stems from his drive to help people, the fact that he has no qualms about bending the rules in order to enforce them, and resorting to decidedly more casual tactics for repeat offenders whenever he's feeling particularly apathetic (eg tripping people who keep running down the halls). Those who have tried to bribe or intimidate .D have quickly found out doing so just serves to annoy him.

.D has a mainly stoic personality which stems from a lot of his experiences in his early years, though his friends are subject to more emotive aspects of him such as unconcealed happiness or mounting exasperation. He started smoking in Year 10, much to Izm's consternation ("don't you know those are bad for you?!"), enjoys strawberries and strawberry flavoured things and playing DDR (he's actually a fair street dancer, but don't tell anyone). He also has a soft spot for children - having grown up helping to look after the younger orphans - and is much more easily amiable towards them.

The relationship between Izm and .D is a fairly close one, despite the occasional instances where they are more like frienemies than friends. In fact some of A.E.D's more "advanced basic" first aid skills were learned because Izm required them but refused to go see the nurse.




Name: Isaac Tanner (aka Izm)
Age: 16

Random additional info:
Izm's "name" is actually a nickname given to him by some of his acquaintances (pro tip most of them were drug dealers) from when he was younger. It has stuck because now it is the only thing he will respond to so even the teachers learn to call him by that moniker. He owns a red (probably illegally purchased) motorbike and has basic gymnastic skills.

Quick Synopsis:

Izm grew up in a working class family and a neighbourhood that saw its fair share of questionable activities. At a young age, Izm decided to help supplement his parents income by taking on "odd jobs", the most well-paying one was delivering packages to certain houses/people whilst on his bicycle. Eventually he found out he was being employed as a drug mule and, amazed at how much money they could make in such a short time, decided to learn the tricks of the trade for which he apparently had a good aptitude for. Unfortunately his parents found out and, ashamed and angry and unable to deal with the situation, they up and left him to fend for himself.

Izm's default expression is some sort of smile/grin/smirk - although whether he's actually feeling happy or cheerful etc is another matter entirely. He is extremely loyal to and protective of his friends, and has a very benign sense of their personal space; quite happy to drape himself over a shoulder or otherwise be touching them in some way. On the flip side, his Redback persona more openly displays his more cunning and ambitious nature.

Being particularly close to A.E.D can be problematic in terms of the Underground, as 1) A.E.D is a prefect and can not know about these particular "extra-curricular" activities and 2) he is Izm's most easily identifiable main weakness to his rivals. Thus Redback's Rule ("You shall not attempt to harm the prefect with the fang bangs...") was born and enforced rigorously. It doesn't really help not paint a target on .D's back, but at least others are sufficiently warned of the consequences of doing so.

Name: Lee Wei Ren
Age: 16

Random additional info:
Ren is short sighted; he's ok with seeing things that are close by (like if you are standing 2m in front of him or something) but anything further away becomes blurry. Also his parents would have a cow if they knew his eyebrow was pierced but as is he takes the barbell out whenever he goes home for holidays.

Quick Synopsis:

Out of the main crew, Wei Ren is the one with the most book smarts as well as the one who is in to the more "geeky" things. He enjoys messing with and tinkering with technology, playing video games, watching anime and TV shows like Supernatural, Star Trek and Dr Who, and spends a lot of his free time surfing the net.

Personality wise, Ren is kind of quiet and serious (he can seem kind of aloof to people who don't know him well)...until he's in the company of his friends or you get him started on something he's interested in; then he loosens up and becomes a bit more of a joker. He also speaks with a typical Singlish accent and often peppers his speech with Singlish terms ("wah lau ni!", "lah" etc) and Chinese.

In terms of family, Wei Ren belongs to an affluent one (as such he often gets a lot of the latest gadgets and gizmos to play with in return for excellent grades), with both parents being lawyers and his brother a doctor. His parents place high values on hard work and academic achievement, and have high expectations of him to follow in their footsteps into some sort of similarly well respected, high paying profession. However - as loyal a relationship he has with his family - Wei Ren hasn't figured out how he is going to break it to them that all he really wants to do is become something like a games programmer (or something related to IT).




Name: Zeke Aaron Fletcher

Zeke's Undergound name is "Arrow" for both obvious and not too obvious reasons. He is also one of the more physically strong members of the group.

Quick Synopsis:

Growing up in a middle class family with twin sisters three years older than him, Zeke was often subject to being their "doll" in their dress up games, tea parties etc. Despite this (or maybe because of it), he grew up an average masculine boy with a love for sports, excitement and comics, and a dislike for overly "girly" things.

Obviously what Zeke's family doesn't know is his little side hobby of selling drugs (mainly weed), which he does to pass time as well as make some extra pocket money. It's not something he does extensively though.

As a person, Zeke is practical and understanding, with a penchant for making things simpler (or more complicated, depending on the situation) by offhandedly voicing "the obvious truth" which everyone else may have missed. The dark circles under his eyes come from lack of sleep, as Zeke often has bouts of transient insomnia - this is either exercise-induced or through poor sleep hygiene (like ODing on caffeine!).




Name: Marcus Wright
Age: 13

Random additional info:
When he smiles he has a dimple. Thanks to the nature of his upbringing he knows how to do a lot of basic household duties (such as cooking and the fastest way to fold clothes) since his sitters always let him or encouraged him to help out with such activities.

Quick Synopsis:

Despite being an only child, Marcus doesn't exactly get the most of his parents' attention, as they are very busy business people. This is not to say that they are totally neglectful, as when they do get family time together they are generally average, loving parents (if not a bit distant). But as it were, Marcus was raised mainly through a small succession of nannies and babysitters.

He's a very friendly kid, but with slight self esteem issues that cause him to eagerly seek others approval and be a little naive. This need for approval (along with a a moral sense of justice and self imposed duty to .D for having helped him when he was in a tight spot) is how Marcus ends up as a school-ground informant.

Additonally, Marcus often worries about what the older boys (Zeke, Wei Ren, Izm and especially .D) think about him, as the novelty of having something akin to four older "brothers" is not lost on him.




Name: Caleb Donahue
Age: 17
Year: 12

Random additional info:
Caleb has freckles all over his body, not just his face. In terms of a fight between him and Izm, Caleb could win on brute strength alone (or numbers, seeing as Caleb has a "gang" compared to Izm's solitary dealings). Izm however is a lot faster and more flexible.

Quick Synopsis:

Caleb is an antagonist character; he enjoys fights, being the "top dog" and winning at all costs. This type of personality probably stems from the fact that as a child he was spoiled rotten and was allowed to get away with a lot of things; his mean and rebellious streak intensifying when his dad turned to alcohol, leading to the divorce.

He can be calculating, but is more often then not brash and rushes head long into things, or gets other people to do his dirty work. He and Izm share a mutual hatred - Caleb hates Izm due to Izm's seemingly un-intimidatable personality and because Izm is the "better" of the two rivals in the drug dealing Underground, and Izm hates Caleb because Caleb's an asshole that often attempts to intimidate him and his friends as well as destroy him either physically or business-wise. A number of injuries these two sustain will probably be because of the other, in some way.

A word of advice is to not get in Caleb's way - he is ruthlessly ambitious and will seriously attempt to cut you down or sabotage you in some way to come out ahead.




Name: Desmond Porter

Desmond's natural hair colour is dirty blond. He wears a number of thin black jelly bracelets on each wrist - he's technically outgrown them by a bit, meaning the only way to get them off now would be to break/cut them off.

Quick Synopsis:

A party animal, Desmond loves nothing more than to hold parties (much to Izm's annoyance - they're roommates), go to parties and gatecrash parties. When he's not partying and occasionally abusing certain substances, Desmond is a mellow, very laid back person who enjoys being a large part of the gossip grape-vine.

Desmond is a "free spirit chameleon" and enjoys switching up his looks by dying his hair (he's sorta got a mini-mohawk going at the moment) different colours whenever he feels like it. He point blank refuses some colours though, such as pink (even though his much adored little sister insists he would look "pretty" with the colour), as he's worried that would send the wrong message to the school's gay community. His eyes are usually a little bit bloodshot from his substance abuse.

His carefree lifestyle puts him at odds with his parents at times (although they have no idea he does drugs, which is probably for the best), and they consider him a potentially bad influence on his younger sister. As such they sent him to Hedone High in the hopes that he'd learn some sort of discipline in having to live in a boarding school.




Name: Lu Rire
Age: 38
Occupation: Headmaster

Random additional info:
Rire is always really well dressed like even when he's sleeping his pyjamas still look stylish. We don't know how he does this either.

Quick Synopsis:

Hedone High's acting headmaster, during his youth Rire attended the same school he was later to run. After graduating he went on to university to become an English teacher and eventually took over as Headmaster a little before his stepdad (the previous headmaster) passed away. His mother has dementia and now lives in a seniors retirement village/nursing home; he visits her occasionally.  

To all outward appearances Rire is a charming, like-able man who is good at his job. However as with a lot of charming like-able men Rire harbours a dark secret/pastime - he enjoys the company of teenage boys.

Not in a platonic way.

His charisma and intelligence, as well as his ability to flirt with women around his age, has kept him out of any trouble and suspicion. Nobody suspects a thing except for maybe some of the students, when small pocket "rumours" about what Rire is capable of crop up. These are always dismissed by the majority as being ridiculous or someone's idea of cruel rumour-mongering, and the whispers often die down after a short while.




Name: Isla Gayle
Age: 27
Occupation: School nurse

Isla runs an extra-curricular basic first aid course for any of the students who are interested.

Quick Synopsis:

Hailing from Jamaica (as is evident by her accent), Isla is the main resident nurse of Hedone High. She was brought up in a matriarchal household and as such has learned to take no nonsense from people. This helps greatly in her job in that - surrounded by adolescent boys - she is not afraid to give them a stern talking down if they attempt to come on to her, or knocking their egos down a peg or two. Many of the students have a good deal of respect for her.

The two Isla usually sees are A.E.D and Izm, either for first aid classes or Izm being dragged their unwillingly by .D. She sees herself as sort of a detached older sister figure to them, and will give them first aid or medical advice and items (to .D, for his first aid kit) without asking too many questions.
